It’s just over a month since Apple launched the M1 Ultra. You know, “the world’s most powerful chip for a personal computer.” With 114 billion transistors and the groundbreaking UltraFusion architecture. That was nice, but what’s next?¹ Based on the latest rumors, it appears to be the M2 MacBook Air. At least according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in this weekend’s Power On newsletter:

Apple is gearing up to launch some new Macs in the next few months. What better place to do so than WWDC?… I’m told there are two new Macs coming around the middle of the year or early in the second half. One of those is likely to be the new MacBook Air.

Gurman first reported on the M2 MacBook Air back in January of last year:

Apple Inc. is working on a thinner and lighter version of the MacBook Air, the company’s mass-market laptop, according to people with knowledge of the matter… It will include Apple’s MagSafe charging technology and a next-generation version of the company’s in-house Mac processors. Apple has discussed making the laptop smaller by shrinking the border around the screen, which will remain 13-inches.
