Does Alice Pay Abusive Wages? and Other Thoughts I Had Watching ‘The L Word Generation Q’
I never really watched The L Word when it was first on the air because a) I was in the closet for 26 years and b) it always seemed pretty corny. But in order to understand all the memes on lesbian Instagram, I decided to watch the reboot, The L Word Generation Q, and I have a lot of questions.
Mainly, is Finley okay? We meet Finley, a kind of dykey Kramer, when she creeps out of some girl’s house in the early hours of the morning in her underwear, clutching a pile of clothes. It’s unclear why she didn’t get dressed before leaving the house, but Finley’s wacky like that! She tries to start her car but can’t, so she STEALS THE BIKE OF THE PERSON SHE’S FUCKING. We later find out it’s because she could only afford enough gas to get there, not home, which is strange considering she’s fully employed by OG cast member Alice Pieszecki, who has a talk show now. (Alice, only the “i” is a vagina.)
Which leads me to my next question, does Alice pay abusive wages? Her on-air sidekick (kind of like her Andy Richter), played by comedian Fortune Feimster, later makes a joke about having to share a one-bedroom apartment. Finley also says she has five roommates. Why is Alice living in this Frank Lloyd Wright-looking estate, fingering her girlfriend on a $15,000 sofa, and her employees…
