Madaleno Launches New TV Ad Showcasing His Record of Standing Up to Trump
History-making political ad first to feature candidate kissing same-sex spouse
Kensington, MD – The Madaleno-Jenkins campaign for Governor launched a new TV ad that highlights how Rich Madaleno has stood up against Donald Trump, the Republicans and Larry Hogan to deliver on progressive priorities more effectively than any other Democrat running for Maryland governor.
The 30-second ad features just some of State Senator and gubernatorial candidate Rich Madaleno’s accomplishments for Marylanders: defending Planned Parenthood to ensure the organization could withstand de-funding from Republicans in Congress, and standing up to the NRA to pass an assault weapons ban in Maryland. It underscores Rich’s lifetime commitment to the core values of equal opportunity and social justice for everyone. The ad will run on cable in Montgomery County and on the ‘Fox & Friends’ show on Fox News in the Washington region. Watch the ad below:
“I’m proud to have been a leader in standing up to Trump and Republicans by delivering on progressive priorities in Maryland,” said Rich Madaleno. “I want to put the President on notice that as the next governor of Maryland, that rather than following Trump down his dark path, we’ll chart a better vision for Marylanders to improve our schools, tackle rising health care costs, and treat every Marylander with the respect and dignity they deserve.”
The close of the ad features Rich and his husband of 16-years, Mark, sitting and kissing on the front lawn of their home, along with their kids Katie, aged-14, and Jackson, aged-11, making it the first political TV ad to feature a kiss between a candidate and their same-sex spouse.
“At a time when political attacks by Trump and other Republicans are fueling so much hatred and division, we need to stand up for the people we love and to continue to confront harassment and discrimination against women, African Americans, immigrants, LGBT couples and so many more. Having led the charge for marriage equality, achieving true equality and justice for all Marylanders will be my priority as Governor,” said Madaleno. “June is LGBT Pride Month and I couldn’t think of a better time to release this ad. I am proud of my family, proud of my record of standing up for our progressive values and proud to be unflinching in standing up against hate. Love truly does trump hate.”
