Give and take. Feedback. Karma. Doesn’t matter how you call it, the Venture Client is an open innovation business model spread among large companies around the world.

But what do we know about it? The Venture Client is a Corporate Venturing tool, although you probably know better Corporate Venture Capital (CVC).

If we look at the epicenter of European innovation, the Nordic countries have already bet heavily on the Venture Client. In our country, companies like Mutua Madrileña have also done it.

A recent study by IESE Insights indicates that Venture Client is one of the ways to increase speed in companies without having to invest in the startup or acquire its technology.

According to Gregor Gimmy, founder of BMW Startup Garage and forerunner of this concept, “venture client” means becoming a startup customer when it is still an adventure to test their product because it is in very early stages of development or MVP.

As you can see, Venture Client involves the big companies that want to change the way they work, and be more agile like startups, from the beginning and in a very active way. To carry it out, the company must understand and analyze its strategic situation, that is, understand the current context and be able to project its vision to propose the next movements.

Until recently, startups were perceived as a threat to the positioning and consolidated technological development of companies. Luckily, that perception gradually disappeared, discovering that it was a “win-win situation” for both parties in a world that is modified almost daily by new technologies and a global digitalization.

The company must understand and analyze its strategic situation and be able to project its vision to propose the next movements.
