This one question sparked a whole bunch of people on POMQA into action. We know where the fiction is. We follow fabulous fiction writers. But, we knew we weren’t getting enough of it.

With so much awesome non-fiction here at Medium, it’s easy to forget about fiction. It’s easy to think that serious people, start-up people, smart people stick to reading about real life. But, fiction is real life.

We are highlighting fabulous fiction across many genres, in many specialty fiction publications on Medium, and by the many authors and editors bringing stories to life.
We want to be the launching pad for discovering fiction across Medium — promoting emerging authors, connecting readers/authors, and highlighting specialty fiction publications.
We won’t publish everything. We will publish the 12 best pieces of fiction each month. Our team feels this is the right number to maintain the quality, provide a variety or fiction and respect our subscribers’ attention.

While we will periodically feature internationally known writers, we are keen to support emerging writers and the craft of storytelling. We believe in fiction.

What we can promise you from the start:
- Publishing occurs only after you approve all edits, if any.
- We don’t claim any rights to your story, ever. Your story remains yours. Medium currently agrees with this concept — general Medium terms are found here.
- If we monetise the platform/publication, you will know before it happens. Compensation will be writer focused.
- We will work hard to get exposure for your work on Medium and with other platforms and/or publications around the world.
Something different about us that you should know up front. We adhere to the slow internet principle. As an example, this principle suggests email should be treated like a 10 page airmail letter from 1912 — carefully and with great respect. We only send two Medium ‘letters’ to our subscribers per month.
This will feel really strange at first, because you may be used to megaphone approaches— we prefer the human scale approach to leveraging the tech. We think you will build a more resilient committed tribe by sharing your fiction, not shoving it down people’s throats.
