First things first. You’ll need an online store, that currently can accept payments and fulfil orders. If your store is set up and working properly, you’re only a couple steps away from setting up Tap To Purchase on Instagram. If you don’t currently have a store, you are going to need to get one set up (Shopify is best here) with all your products. Starting a store directly on your Facebook page is not ideal, and living outside of the US, accepting payments can be difficult.

Once you are able to connect that store to Facebook, your digital marketing abilities will become very powerful.

Once your store is ready, you’ll need to convert your Instagram profile and have it verified as a Business Instagram Profile. This will allow you to sell directly from Instagram. At this point, you’ll be asked to add a payment method — you can check out on another website, check out to messenger, or build it out by connecting your Shopify/BigCommerce store & you can connect your store with a few clicks.

You’ll now need to connect your store to your Facebook Catalog.

The Facebook catalog can be accessed in your business manager settings, under Data Sources.

Once connected, navigate to the Products Tab where you’ll be able to create product sets, filters, and see insights on how your inventory has performed over time.

Your account will then be reviewed by Facebook which usually takes a few days.

Once your approved you’ll received a notification to turn on product tagging in your Instagram Settings.

You’ll now be able to post on instagram, and tag your products featured (this can now be done within a story too!) — allowing for a seamless checkout for your customers. Ads can also be run with the tap to purchase feature, which works best when re-marketing to users who have visited your website and did not make a purchase.

Things can get technical. If this all seems a bit much don’t worry.
