It is not enough to conquer; one must learn to seduce. ~Voltaire

Sergey Zolkin

Voltaire, an 18th century writer and philosopher, draws an imperative distinction. There is a fine line between the two, conquering and seducing.

To conquer is to acquire by force, however, to seduce is to attract or entice.

Yet, can’t the ‘act of’ and ‘ability to’ seduce also be likened to acquiring by force with the single difference being the method? Conquering requires brute or brawn while seduction requires finesse. The end result is the same.

Voltaire was a pretty prolific dude. He took on the establishment of the day and wrote of freedom of speech, while denigrating intolerance. He achieved notoriety for his wit and satirical interpretation of social norms. He also took on religious dogma and believed in separation of church and state.

Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities. ~Voltaire

Deception and trickery are the tools of the trade for the seductively mighty.

Think of the Mona Lisa with her enigmatic expression. Perplexing, alluring and a little mystery attracts powerfully. As opposed to a conquering force like a bolt of lightning out of nowhere striking a tower shaking it’s contents and causing the damage. No mystery, just might.

Intrigue has a more profound influence on the psyche than might. By peaking a person’s interest you can lead them to do your bidding instead of forcing them. No one likes to be made to do something, but people will gladly be led if their emotions are engaged.

Knowing when life needs your conquering forces and when it needs a little seduction is a big deal. Use your power to think and turn it into power to influence. It’s not always enough to conquer. Learn to seduce a little in life, the results will astound. Is it the time to conquer or is it the time to seduce?
