There has been a lot of books about happiness released into the general market over the past few years. From Mari Kondo to books like The Happiness Equation by Harvard MBA Neil Pasricha and PhD professors in happiness like Paul Dolan and his book Happiness by Design.

The idea of happiness has become a hot topic and gold mine for publishers. So what’s the big deal with happiness?

Everyone wants it. Science says its a chemically induced feeling. Philosophy says its to do with contentment and existence. Economics suggests that it’s to do with GDP.

But what exactly is happiness?

Happiness is a strange little big concept. It’s something we all think we understand but when it comes to its continued experience, happiness, whatever it truly means often evades us.

It’s like holding water with clenched hands — the more we try, the quicker it disappear. So we try harder and end up working longer hours because over time, the concept of monetary hording has become synonymous with happiness.

But material wealth doesn’t always guarantee happiness — or so the cliche saying goes. It guarantees the fulfillment of your physical needs but…
