What I learned, giving it back!

A sharing experience of my recent mentoring at Startup Weekend.

Mentoring, in other words, sharing your experience with the young minds. Learnings on both the side. The startup is not something new to me, I have been into the startup industry since 2011. The only place where you can apparently test your skills and place yourself. To me, in person, anyone who wants to judge themself or test capacity. STARTUP is the dice. I will be writing a specific blog on the importance of Startups later.

Association with Startup Weekend couldn’t have been possible without (Left Eye). Madrasters is the supporting partner for the event, and I was invited as the Mentor.

Startup Weekend Chennai CEG Edition 2018:

Working Team

The event started on 9 Feb 2018. 3 days of covering 52 hours of a typical Startup hackathon. I was there for the Day 2 (10 Feb 2018). There were around 12+ Startup teams participating. I almost spend 5 to 10 mins with all the team. Mentoring them and addressing their basic design issues. Also guiding the overall structure and product pitching. It was a pleasure to be around with the teams. Every team is unique in their own way.

None of the ideas are bad, all they need is right team and facilities to execute. Kudos to the Startup Weekend for providing a good enviorment for all the Startup entrepreneur to collaborate.

Special Mention (One team): A team of young college buddies were making unique shoes for athletes. Key feature: Inbuilt hydraulic spikes. This shoe can be used both in the track field/ground and can be worn as the normal shoe. A hydraulic button will take care of the ON and OFF of the spikes. I found it very useful in a scenario ‘When the player is off for a restroom’ Athlete can use the same shoe and bring back the spikes when he is on the field. Pretty interesting and sensible idea. Founder of this idea was an athlete.

Necessity is the mother of all inventions.

The event ended with a final competition, all the teams were given a time of 5+5 mins to present and QA. Judges from TiECON. Winners were announced.

  • 1st Prize: BOZZY (Offers premium business class travel experience to all their customers)
  • 2nd Prize: AMAC (an alternative product idea to the existing Air Conditioners, which uses the desiccant material to remove the humidity from the air)
  • 3rd Prize: MEETCEPTION (location-based local connectivity app for productive professional networking opportunities)

Kudos to all the participant, in the stage of startup nothing to win or to lose. It is all the experience.

More the bad experience you gain, more the better product you create. Fall and raise is the nature of Entrepreneurs.

Few shots of my presence at the event.

Thanks to Startup Weekend team for inviting me to the mentorship and special mention to student of CEG the main coordinator of the event. His dedication and energy to the event is matchless.
