12 Reasons You Should Invest in Eco Friendly Clothing

Most of us know of the environmental damage that fashion can cause. The industry uses huge amounts of water, pesticides, chemicals and other forms of toxic waste. But choosing to invest in eco friendly clothing is more than just helping the environment, it’s a way of making yourself feel good too. Lets take a look at 12 reasons why investing in eco friendly clothing is always a great idea!

1. To help the environment

There was a time when people believed the world to be flat, but with the invention of travel and the ability of explorers to reach beyond the horizon, it was discovered that the world was round. The same can be said for our environment because as humans, it is our role to take care of the planet and ensure a better future for generations to come. From recycling to using more energy efficient appliances, we have become more conscious about how we treat our planet.

These days, with all of the knowledge available on the importance of remaining eco friendly, my heart falls every time I see someone wearing clothing made from plastic or other harmful materials. It’s not just ugly because it’s in style either. See, all of this creates a dangerous cycle that can cause lasting, harmful effects for generations to come and why we all feel like it’s time to appreciate and move more towards eco friendly options. Organic cotton farming doesn’t use hazardous pesticides, insecticides or fertilizers.

2. For the animals

As someone that loves animals and loves to be kind to animals, this was a really easy blog post to write. I wanted to find 12 reasons why you should invest in eco friendly clothing, but honestly it was hard to find any reasons not to do it! If you’re looking for an amazing gift for the person who has everything — or simply just a wonderful and thoughtful item for your own closet then look no further than a sustainable item.

You care about our planet and the animals that live on it, so why not show your love for the Earth by buying eco-friendly clothing? You can show support for this cause by choosing to buy clothing made from fabric that is sustainable, such as cotton or hemp.

3. To help farmers

There are plenty of reasons to invest in eco friendly clothing. For example, it is more ethical as you support small businesses and farmers. It is also better for your health as the materials used are not chemically treated. And let’s not forget about the quality, which is always better for the environment. So whether you want to help farmers, be healthier or just reduce your carbon footprint, here are 12 reasons you should invest in eco friendly clothing.

4. To give back to Mother Nature

If you’re reading this article, there’s a pretty good chance that you care about the environment. To begin with, I want to tell you how incredibly impressed I am with your dedication. There are few people these days who make decisions that consider the wellbeing of others and Mother Nature (and I say this as someone who has done his fair share of hiking and kayaking!). But since you have made the decision to give back to the environment, let me ask you a question — do you want to improve the state of our planet?

I bet most people do because we are all connected to nature in one way or another. Why not start small? When shopping for new clothes, don’t forget to look out for clothing that is eco-friendly. Whether you’re shopping at a large chain store or your local neighbourhood’s boutique, there are several reasons why you may want to follow this trend.

5. To feel cleansed and pure inside out

The clothing you wear helps you define your status in life. It also defines who you are as an individual. Perhaps, the most important thing is to be comfortable with exactly who you are. In order to do this, it is vital for you let your clothes enhance your personality by letting go off what society thinks of aesthetics.

Wearing eco friendly clothing is a smart decision to make if you care about the environment and want to do all you can to nurture, restore and improve it. By wearing eco clothing, you invest in the environmental cause through fashion.

6. To support retailers that are working for change.

The apparel manufacturing industry is responsible for more than a quarter of the world’s water consumption, and uses twice as much energy as it does to produce steel. An additional one-fifth of all human-made carbon dioxide emissions are due to this sector. Having said that, sustainable fashion has been on the rise in the past few years. More and more clothing brands are striving to supply their customers with garments that are both stylish and eco friendly. These days, you can buy organic cotton, recycled polyester and other materials made by conscious clothing manufacturers online and in retail stores worldwide.

In my experience, consciously choosing to buy eco-friendly clothing and goods is important because it helps support the businesses that are working toward change in the way we do business.

7. To lower your Carbon Footprint

Change starts with you. If you make even a few changes in your wardrobe, you can start to lower your carbon footprint-and want to. We aren’t saying don’t buy, but we are saying think before you buy. If we all consume a little more consciously, then maybe the environmental impact wouldn’t be so great.

8. To support local designers or small businesses

One of the best ways to support local designers or small businesses, is by purchasing clothing that has been created using sustainable methods. By far one of the most common ways of creating sustainable clothing is by using organic fabrics that have been sourced locally.

Did you know that 80% of the clothing sold in the UK ends up in landfills? It’s not great when you think that you spend so much money on clothes each month and they will last less than a year. I like to wear bright colours, but it’s hard to find items which are bright but aren’t made out of plastic. That’s why I prefer to wear items from small businesses, who only make a limited number of items and care about their environment rather than larger more commercial companies which don’t care about their impact as much. This is the kind of thinking behind Madsbay . The Madsbay brand was formed in 2021 to provide people with stylish alternatives to mass produced fast fashion, so what makes Madsbay an ethical company? Well, for starters all products are “made to order” by local designers who support their community and design for style, comfort and longevity.

9. To live a more sustainable lifestyle

Most of us want to do more to live a more sustainable lifestyle, but it’s hard to know where to start. We live in a world that’s built on consumerism, where our needs are constantly being put ahead of the needs of the planet. However, living an eco-friendly lifestyle is easier than you might think when you start small. One small change at a time can help reduce your carbon footprint.

10. To encourage fair trade and ethical labor practices in production

There are plenty of reasons why you might buy clothing. Maybe you’re under a tight budget, maybe you like to adorn your body with the latest designer trends, or maybe you just like to watch fashion models walk the runway at Milan Fashion Week. (no judgment here) Regardless, if we’re talking about fashion, you have to accept that there are numerous ethical implications in where our clothes come from, who made them and how.

According to the World Bank, in 2012 the United States watched over 1.2 trillion dollars sent overseas (equivalent to 55% of it’s total GDP). The huge increase of our economy has come at a cost however, with textile factories located primarily in Asia have made us dependent on cheap, low quality clothes that are produced by illegal child labor in sweat shops and poorly paid workers who live in horrific conditions.

Individuals and companies that practice fair trade in their clothing supply chain are increasingly popular. In order for a business to be considered as practicing fair trade, they have to use resources ethically, pay employees a fair wage, respect their human rights and protect the environment. Customers are beginning to invest in companies that practice fair trade because of their ethical commitment.

11. To put your money where your mouth is

Being eco friendly doesn’t stop at just your home. It’s not just about recycling, and it’s definitely not about only using green cleaners in your home. It’s about putting your money where your mouth is. One of the most eco-friendly purchases you can make is investing in 100% cotton or bamboo clothing. And the best part, you don’t have to compromise style for being green. These are my picks for eco friendly clothing that look good and feel even better!

12. Because this list isn’t even long enough! (Because there are so many reasons!)

If you’re looking at all the reasons why people are switching to eco friendly clothing, you may be surprised by what you find. You don’t have to choose between fashion and your health or the environment. As it turns out, there is a rapidly growing clothing revolution taking place right now, which has people in a frenzy. Eco friendly clothes aren’t just made from natural fibers that last longer and look better, but they’re better for you and the planet! In this blog post I want to talk about: Why go eco friendly? Which products use eco-friendly materials Which companies make eco-friendly clothing What consumers say about eco friendly clothes What are some great brands of eco friendly clothes And finally, how do you clean your organic clothes?

The list above is just a fraction of all the reasons why you should take the steps towards living with a more eco-friendly lifestyle. With this list, I have tried to include the biggies that I feel the need to mention.

Takeaway: There are many reasons to invest in eco friendly clothing.

These are all great reasons to invest in eco friendly clothing, and this list barely scratches the surface of what disposable fashion is costing us. It might seem like a higher upfront cost in the short term, but there are many reasons why that investment will return its value many times over. Our biggest issue with disposable clothing is how much it hurts our planet and its natural resources. If you are already a conscious consumer who is looking to minimize their impact on the world, then you should consider whether or not your closet is living up to those ideals.
