Working together to complete our final system

A lot of today was spent working together to ensure that our systems worked well together and make final changes. Mason’s video was finished the earliest so my poster and Jae’s handheld piece took more work, but we all stayed late together to help each other crit and iterate.

We asked around a lot of teachers who were coming through our studio (Dylan and Andrew) and even some upperclassmen who were waiting to print for advice from people who were seeing what we had made for the first time since maybe we had been looking at it for too long.

Dylan gave me really good advice about my piece pointing out that it wasn’t really the way things were laid out that was uncomfortable but the fact that there were essentially 3 visual languages that were just not marrying together. To combat this, I tried to see what ways I could incorporate handwriting but all of them seemed somewhat off. The right looks like marker felt font and the left looks like a type error.

In the end, I tried to break the grid a little and induce more flow with the vertical text since we needed to include a shoutout to our instagram regardless. We kept the digital typeface and rounded the edges of our doodles to match with the rounded speech bubble. I also made the hands a solid tone instead of an outline so that it can flow better with the speech bubble.

Jae and I have been working together a lot since both our pieces are print so they can be more unified. Jae has made a lot of changes after we went to speak with Andrew together in an effort to go away from the more clinical/sterile look.

The light shone through quite sharp without anything over it but we diffused it a bit with the special paper that Dylan recommended us. We then tested yellow over the cut out which let it flow more with the rest of the piece and bring in more attention to our catch.

We successfully snatched the two lightboxes from freshmen studio and are actively putting the final poster and handheld pieces together now!
