Iterations during the weekend; tried the horizontal versions: didn’t really work out.

April 30 progress

  • cards more easily accessible & visible
  • two layers — cards to pick up on top and complete poster behind them
  • visuals not representing digital too much
  • maybe change poster size to be larger?

the network visual on the top left right now is more like demo; going to change the color, and change the form to be more organic.

when audience pick up all the cards, the poster shows its message

May 1 progress

changed the card size to 4*7 inches.

the bubble is sticker. when the audience detach the sticker from the card, the call to action shows; telling the audience to catch up with their friends.

May 2

May 3

  • too clinical → more friendly, make it look like done by peers
  • too much text → less text

Other options came up:

namecard size/format — one side is sticker, one side is text/information → triggering the audience to flip the card to get all the components would be tricky.

folded card — I think it has its own advantage, but it may be too formal and I think a single sheet would be more tempting to pick up.

I will get the sticker papers and try printing on the underlayer of the paper to test out. I want to have a message behind the bubble sticker as I mentioned above, but I don’t know if it would print well, so will give it a try.

Also, for the scoring of the sticker outline, it would be the best to score the shape of the bubble, but practically it would be difficult. I will try and if it doesn’t work, I will score the rectangle around the bubble.

May 4

I test printed with the sticker paper to see if I can print on the underlayer of the sticker paper. It does print, but because of the slippery texture, the ink does not stay and it runs or is erased easily, as you can see in the pitcure.

May 5

I changed the yellow and blue that matches with the video and the large poster more. Also, instead of the yellow as background and blue as highlight, I reversed it to blue as background and yellow as highlight because it gives more informaitonal, welcoming feeling whereas the yellow background one gives clinical feelings. The one without the borderline and white box looks more coeherent to the large poster, but then it gives less impression that the sticker is the main thing to take with, I think I will stay with the one with white box.

May 7

Talking to Andrew, I realized that the color changing did not make much difference in reducing the clinical feelings. He suggested on developing the imessge looking iteration (above under May 2 progress) to resolve the problem of looking clinical. He told us that it would be nice to break the original proportion of the features of the imessage so that it becomes effective for the design but still keeping the impression that the concept is messaging. Also, he pointed out that the text would be more legible if I increase the column width. So I changed the alignment of the catch “what’s your instagram following ratio?” and the body text to the left align and increase the width of the body text. Also, I took advantage of the form of the imessage format which has the text writing section on the bottom, to convey the message that it is important to take this opportunity of texting to arrange further in-person meeting, by having “we should meet up!” on there.

got rid of the hands in the background because they are distracting, and changed the features to the newest version of ios, changed the bubble to yellow. Also, brought down the opacity of the features on the bottom.

Mason suggested to change the proportion of the document so that it does not look so crammed and looks closer to the phone resolution.

on the back layer the information about our instagram account.

changed the gray circle to be lighter so that it does not catch so much attention. changed the text color to white. With this proportion, (4*7.5"), contents does not look crammed.

I changed the circle on the top to white so that it is more relevant to the rest of the contents and cleaner. We printed out and asked around people which looks better — black text or white text, and they said and we thought that black is easier to read and crispy but white looks better in terms of color. However, the prints were with the regular paper with reese printer so that would be part of the reason why the white text is not crispy enough. So we decided to go with white. Also, we have our instagram account about our project and we decided to place that information on the back layer of the sticker so the audience can find that out when they detach the sticker.
