A not so great read!

Aperture by Bhaskar Chattopadhyay has all the ingredients to make it one of the best whodunnit, yet it falls short of transitioning from a ‘good read’ to a ‘great read.’

The story starts off with a bang- When a struggling freelance photographer discovers a secret window in his apartment that overlooks a cheap hotel across the road, he quickly turns into a voyeur and a blackmailer. It takes a murder and detective Janardhan Maity to shake his conscience.

Since the camera has caught the murderer in the act, it seems like an open and shut case for the readers. But what lies ahead is a maze of complexities that detective Maity treads on with ease and at times with bewilderment! Somewhere along the way, the author’s penchant for being descriptive impedes the pace of the novel, not to mention the interest of the readers!

At the end of this book, I was engulfed with a sense of dismay as the most important aspect in a murder mystery was left unanswered or did I fail to read between lines? Any guesses, what could it be? Would love to hear your comments!
