“The alienation became reinforced in the teaching of history, geography, music, where bourgeois Europe was always the centre of the universe.” -Ngugi wa Thiong’o

Language Is the Sound of Poetry

Some some, language is a form of colonization and brainwashing, found in Ngugi wa Thiong’o works like “Decolonizing the Mind” (1986) which explores the effects of forcing a nation to learn English.

Ngugi wa Thiong’o (1938 — )

In 1952, English became the language of formal education in Kenya, and this thinker influenced how we look at forced language learning .

Most of the readings that deal with Africa are written in European languages, and most of the award winning African writers were trained or worked in European settings.

My young Zulu friend who loved ninjas, loved me because I always dressed as a ninja, but when he committed suicide in middle-school, forced to learn English, because of the poverty that overwhelmed him as he became an orphan, that one day on his face book page, I learned that he killed himself and is girlfriend was traumatized and so was I.

Rest in Peace!

What effect does language have on former colonized countries in our post-colonial world?

“Language carries culture, and culture carries, particularly through orature and literature, the entire body of values by which we come to perceive ourselves and our place in the world.” — — -Ngugi wa Thiong’o

Besides learning English, European culture was taught which has has a profound effect on students of all colors, so keep in mind:

“The real aim of colonialism was to control the people’s wealth: what they produced, how the[y] produced it, and how it was distributed; to control, in other words, the entire realm of the language of real life. . . .

But its most important area of domination was the mental universe of the colonised, the control, through culture, of how people perceived themselves and their relationship to the world.” — — — Ngugi wa Thiong’o

Thank you for readings this. . .

What are your thoughts?

Thus, the native language of a country must gain acceptance, so think about the effect of the English language has had on Native Indians in America.

Learning English was a nightmare for me . . .

when I moved to America as a teenage since I spoke Korean all my life to my Korean friends and family members, and my other friends in Los Angeles spoke Spanish to me, so I learned that too, for no one spoke English.

Even the radio has Korean stations, Chinese Station, Japanese Stations, and Latino Stations, and even on free television, ABC, CBS and NBC, they had added shows in other languages in LA.

There was never a need to use English!

All Whites who mastered English had left the inner city of Los Angeles, with its poverty and gang violence and they lived in the mountain side looking down on us, or moved far away to better schools, better jobs, and a better life in a suburb, far, far, far away.

This has happened already, all across America in states like Florida and Texas, and even here in Oklahoma as the White majority abort their babies more frequently than the peoples of color, so Whites will soon become the minority.. . .
