Magic Product Updates: May Edition
With decentralized apps like ZED RUN and Showtime taking off, more developers are increasingly interested in blockchain development. The last year or so has shown that the crypto landscape moves fast. And it can feel like a lot to keep up with as new chains emerge every few months.
At Magic, we’re focused on providing simple tools for developers to stay ahead of the curve. That’s why we’ve been working on creating space for the community to gather and break down core concepts and making it easier to test and build applications on top of blockchains beyond just Ethereum.
In this post, I’ll share some of the ways we’re here to help support you and your projects.
💫 Demystifying dApp development, together
If you want to learn what it means to build a decentralized app (dApp) on a blockchain and meet two very exciting guests, this month’s Close-up Magic meetup is made for you.
Thanks to amazing attendees, our second community meetup was a success! It was incredible to see everyone tuning in across 28 different countries.
A fun networking session, an insightful interview with Harry and Morgan, and an easy-to-follow dApp tutorial made it a very lively event, with lots of active engagement pouring in from the audience.
👨🏻💻 Harry: Full Stack Engineer at Magic Labs
👩🏻💻 Morgan: Software Engineer in DeFi, Content Creator, Freelancer, and Co-Founder of Symbiant
We covered a range of questions including ones from the live chat:
- What is a blockchain?
- Why build a dApp over a regular app?
- What’s your #1 advice for those wanting to get started in developing decentralized apps on the blockchain?
- How do you view smart contracts on the blockchain?
- Is immutability ever an issue?
In case you missed it, you can catch the recording!
Up next, we’ll be interviewing G2, Founder of The Creative Platform. Come join to learn about G2 and his team’s journey to building a blockchain platform that revolutionizes how creators, fans, and brands work together with Decentralized Finance (DeFi).
Can’t wait to see you there. Register early to save your spot.
🪐 Support for Cosmos, the internet of blockchains
Now you can now build application-specific blockchains. Instead of building a decentralized application on top of an underlying blockchain like Ethereum, you can build your own blockchain from the ground up.
Cosmos is an ecosystem of blockchains that can scale and interoperate with each other. Use Magic to become interoperable with Cosmos blockchains that are rapidly gaining adoption.
This doc covers the easy steps to set up the new Cosmos extension.
🧪 Test mode covering Web 3.0
Test mode for Magic JS SDK now supports standard Ethereum/Web 3.0 methods and the ability to associate specific key-pairs to test users and better testnet ergonomics.
