In the city that never sleeps, the Main Street Hub Sales office never stops winning. As Sales Director in New York, Mike Zaretsky is always on his feet. From call-coaching to supporting multiple teams to dancing along to the office’s loud, upbeat music — there is never a shortage of things to get done on the sales floor.

Somehow, we got Mike to sit down for a few minutes so we could pick his brain about how the New York City Sales Office operates and why he loves what he does.

How long have you been at Main Street Hub?

“I started in April, 2014. I began as a Sales Rep and worked my way up over the last three years to be Sales Director here in New York City.”

What’s something you’re really proud of that you have accomplished in your time here?

Being part of the growth here. I’m proud to have the opportunity to work for a company where I am able to create, accomplish, and learn and challenge myself to constantly leave my comfort zone and get to the next level in my career. There are very few companies that allow you to do that, so I’m very grateful for the opportunity.”

What is your favorite thing about the NYC Sales Team?

“My favorite thing about the New York team is the natural talent pool that we have here. There are a lot of really driven people, a lot of people with intrinsic motivation. It’s awesome to have the opportunity to work here because it pushes you to want to get to the next level. That’s the most exciting thing.”

What kinds of things do you do to motivate your team on the sales floor even more?

“We’re really big on shoutouts. We shout out individuals who did a really great job, either the day, week, or month before. We love to open it up to teammates so that everybody can shout each other out. Taking every opportunity to celebrate wins, whether big or small, creates a very positive environment where everybody’s elevating each other.

“We also do a lot of team-building events. We do happy hours, we do a lot of incentives that teams can actually accomplish. We’ve had a lot of different, fun activities in that regard that have really helped drive the team.”

Can you tell us more about the contests or incentives your team has had recently ?

“We had a bunch of different spiffs throughout the month. We had a really cool one recently — when people closed deals they were able to pop balloons that were attached to the gong and there were little papers hidden in the balloons. People would open up the paper and see what their prize was and go claim their prize.

“We’ve sent sales reps to France, Hawaii, Atlantic City, and St. Lucia. We also allow the quarter’s top Reps from Austin and NYC to switch offices for a week. We’ve gone bowling, and we have mini-golf and cornhole in the office that Reps can play for prizes.”

What do you think is the biggest difference between the Austin and NYC offices?

“Part of our goal is to create the same culture. Our core values are the backbone of our culture. As long as people are living through those values, we’re going to create very similar environments. From what I’ve heard in feedback that I’ve gotten, we’re very hard-working here in New York and our work ethic is unmatched. I think it’s going to be awesome once that hard work reaches the point where everybody develops the skills they need in order to consistently be successful. Our goal for this year is to become the #1 inside sales organization to work for in NYC. We’re doing that through our core values, through creating an environment of fun and accountability.

“We’re all working toward the same goals, and we all share a lot of the same hardships. When you’re together with people that are trying to accomplish the same thing, it creates a great team dynamic. We’re all about celebrating the little wins, elevating each other and the people around us. We know that’s gonna pay us back and create the right environment.”

What is your favorite core value?

“Challenge Ourselves is my favorite core value. I actually won an award for challenging myself in 2015, so that was really exciting. I love pushing myself past my comfort barriers and trying to take on things that I’m not really comfortable doing. That’s something that has definitely led to my development here and has helped me progress my career and succeed.”

What does it take to be successful at Main Street Hub?

“It takes a lot of different qualities. You have to be very driven, you have to have a great work ethic, and you have to be willing to remove your ego. We have a very different process, a very different product, and a very different way of doing things. The people who come in and ask the most questions, ask for help, ask for support, and own the learning the process here in NYC before anything else — those are the people who are most successful.”

Can you describe the NYC team in one word?

“Unstoppable.”
