Interesting Things | Part 6
2019 is almost over and things are not looking good for the planet. In January I was hoping that April and May will bring some relief with a possible change in the political discourse of our country but that did not happen. The discourse only got stronger and deeper.
Someone shared this picture in a WhatsApp group, some digging around told me that every piece of information is true. [I take my WhatsApp news with a spoonful of doubt and scepticism]
The fact that every piece of news here is true is extremely sad. As a country, we are moving behind. Take for example the Transgender Bill 2019 which was recently passed by the Rajya Sabha. Some aspects of the Bill are in direct conflict with the 2014 NALSA judgement of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. While the judgement ensured citizens right to self-identity and did not mandate a surgery (which is very expensive), the current bill leaves us in a murky space with the provision of a transgender identity certificate that needs to be issued by the District Administration.
You can read more about the challenges with the Transgender Bill 2019 here and here.
The Quarter 2 GDP saw a historic fall, we are at 4.5% as compared to 7% around the same time last year. We cannot afford this slowdown and something needs to be done.
If you are confused as to why this is bad for the country then do find 5 minutes to read this.
ET does a fairly good job at explaining the challenges that the country is facing right now.
The current situation of the country makes it difficult to figure out how do you live and how do you go about every day. Jiddu Krishnamurthy comes in with a bit of advice for these trying times.
The latest Awakin reading is perfectly timed and evergreen.
I hope we have a better month and an even better year ahead. Keep doing the good work that you are doing and think twice before doing something that might harm someone. Making less by doing well is much better than making a lot by doing less harm. Take your call.
Stay safe. Thank you.
P.S. Keep an eye out for my blogs. I have been writing short 1 minute blogs with quick snippets from our work regularly.
