On the Linux Foundations EdgeX Foundry 1st Anniversary, celebrated at Hannover Messe in Germany, Draško Drašković, founder and CEO of the Mainflux, has received two community awards.

Draško received the EdgeX Foundry Community Innovation Award for his exemplary leadership as well as the Contribution Award for the extensive technical contribution that has made a significant impact on growing EdgeX project as an open source venture and an interoperability platform.

New Annual Community Awards Program is launched to mark the EdgeX Foundry momentum as the project and as the community. In the first year of existence, the EdgeX Foundry reached the engagement with nearly 80 members on a global scale, from small start-ups to some of the largest tech companies in the world.

EdgeX Foundry Governing Board, consisting of representatives from Dell, ADI, and Samsung Electronics (among the others), based on community nominations, selected Draško and Andy Foster from IOTech as the winners of Contribution Award for Exemplary Leadership.

Additionally, Technical Steering Committee (TSC) selected Drasko and Tony Espy from Canonical for the Innovation Award, which recognizes individuals who have contributed the most innovative solution.

“We are excited to recognize leaders in our community who have helped EdgeX Foundry become a trailblazer,” said Jason Shepherd, Chair of the EdgeX Foundry Governing Board and Dell Technologies IoT CTO. “Member companies both small and large are active in the EdgeX technical community in various ways and are leveraging EdgeX in their product and solutions roadmaps. In fact, we’ll see a few prototypes later this year.”

“I am really honored for this recognition! I want to express my gratitude to the EdgeX Foundry Community and its many people who were working hard to make this project successful. Thanks to them, participation in this project during last year was exciting, beneficial and rewarding for me.

My special thanks goes to Mike Woster and Philip DesAutels from Linux Foundation and also Jason Shepherd and Jim White from Dell, for inviting Mainflux to the project and believing in us at the first place” said Draško Drašković.

He also added:”My colleagues Dejan Mijic, Janko Isidorovic, Manuel Imperiale, Nikola Marcetic, and Darko Draskovic also get credit for this award. Knowledge which I used in EdgeX Foundry is the result of our teamwork, cooperation and exchange. Of course, this is also a big motivation for us to continue our work with more confidence and passion!”

“We are especially proud that Drasko is recognized among more than 200 people from member companies who were involved in different forms on EdgeX Foundry development, from face-to-face meetings through working groups, special projects, and/or contributed large amounts of code, bug fixes or documentation”, said Sasa Klopanovic Mainflux CMO.

Edgex Foundry project started with the concept of microservices written in Java.

After meeting held in Boston, where Mainflux team presented the performance of their IoT Platform, created also as a set of microservices but written in Go language, it became clear to the EdgeX community that the whole project should move from Java to Go.

Draško Drašković and Mainflux team helped the transition of EdgeX Foundry project from Java to Go, not only by contributing code but also by providing assistance, help and consulting to project community members.

FInal results in tests run by Jim white from Dell after that transition expose astounding overall improvement for more than 90% in every important performance aspect of the EdgeX Platform.
