The Vanderbilt Commodores pick up their second commit in the 2018 recruiting class. Darius Garland the #3 point guard in the 2018 recruiting class and the #15 player in the class announced his decision to come to Vanderbilt today.

Darius Garland chose Vanderbilt over 15 schools but limited his list to four (Vanderbilt, UCLA, Kentucky, and Indiana) before committing. Garland joins Aaron Nesmith who is ranked a 4-star according to 247Sports as the only two 2018 commits for Vandy right now.

The Nashville, Tennessee native is joining two of his teammates at Brentwood Academy as there are now 3 Brentwood Academy kids committed to Vanderbilt now. I am sure the two football commits Gavin Schoenwald and Camron Johnson played a big role in Garland’s decision.

Darius Garland is Vanderbilt’s second 5-star commit ever and now ranks as the highest touted recruit in Vanderbilt history over John Jenkins.

Garland now has the task of recruiting his AAU teammate Romeo Langford. Langford cut his list to three schools

Romeo Langford is the #5 player and #1 ranked shooting guard in the nation according to 247Sports. Vanderbilt, Indiana, and Kansas are his top 3 teams. If Bryce Drew has the ability to land Romeo Langford, Vanderbilt would have a scary back court.

Darius Garland has the chance to blossom into a lottery pick at Vanderbilt. Now the question that Vanderbilt fans have to ask is, will Garland go one and done? The choice of going to Vanderbilt shows that he is interested in more than the pedigree that the school offers. Garland seems to be interested in the education, which should keep him locked in at Vanderbilt for four years.

As of right now, Darius Garland has the chance to immediately make an impact at Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt’s starting point guard is Larry Austin Jr, an Xavier transfer, who will likely sit behind Garland next year.
