Please introduce yourself, what do you do at MainStreet, and what were you doing before this?

Hello, I’m Andrés García, and I’m a brand new — brand designer at MainStreet. Before MainStreet, I worked with several small boutique design and branding agencies. My focus has always been in branding but also dive into product design, and some motion design.

Where have you lived and which place has been your favorite so far?

I was born in Michoacán Mexico, home of the monarch butterflies. My family relocated to Houston Texas when I was about 12 and have now been in New York for five years. It’s hard to pick a favorite. Mexico will always have a special place in my heart but New York has many things I would miss if I ever leave.

What led you to being a Designer?

I would draw a lot as a kid. I would buy comic books just so I could trace the characters. That lead me to taking a lot of art classes in middle school and high school. I eventually went to art school in Houston. I’ve always had an affinity to technology, particularly around image and video software. Design felt like a perfect blend of art and technology.

Why did you choose to join MainStreet?

I’ve never worked in a start-up before and have always been curious about this world—particularly being around a talented group of designers and engineers where the primary goal is to work and build a product that lives beyond a concept or a brief. It’s a much deeper dive with attention to every little detail. I like the level of focus that I’ve found here which only makes me more excited to get my hands dirty.

Do you have any pets and if so can we see pictures?

Sadly, I have no carbon based lifeforms as pets. I do however have an (almost) full carbon Cinelli bike that I consider an extension to my self. I know it’s not a pet but it brings me joy. Other than that, a few house plants.

Pen or Pencil?

I write with a pen and sketch with a pencil. I’m a sucker for fancy mechanical pencils.

Aside from Design, what else are you interested in?

I love food; cooking, reading about food, traveling, learning about cultures and history through food. Learning new recipes got me through the first year of quarantine and I continue to try new things to this day. I also love to bike around New York with friends — from casual beer and taco rides to intense century rides to Montauk. I’m also a huge fútbol fan; placing my bets on Brazil to win this years World Cup.

What’s one meal you can’t stop thinking about?

There are many, especially Mexican food. There is one meal that had a unique experience to it—I was in Mexico City recently and was able to go to Expendio de Maiz. This little cafe operates without a menu. They will bring small plates to you one at a time until you tell them “no más!” Not only was that unique but the dishes were amazing, along with a cafe de olla, it was the best brunch I’ve ever had.

What is your favorite of the 5 senses? Why?

My favorite sense would have to be my sense of taste — because again, food. It’s almost a synesthetic experience for me.

What’s one fact about you that tends to surprise others?

I’m the oldest of seven siblings.

A movie and/or tv series you’d recommend without hesitation to anyone?

At the moment, I would recommend watching Severance and Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Favorite thing about working at MainStreet?

So far, my favorite thing is working along a talented, diverse group of people. I’m still relatively new and have already learned so much from my coworkers,
