Common ground of our being…

Well, it may sound strange, but the fact is that we are inseparably and intricately interconnected to all beings. An Eskimo sitting in an igloo, a red ant marching along the great wall of China and a dancing tribal in remotest forests of Amazon all are deeply connected to my being. This is because our consciousness and world arise from each other and contain each other. This isn’t an intellectual analysis but a living insight that we all have to obtain by looking deeply.

Suppose someone in the farthest continent is sad. The ripple of this sadness traverses across our shared deepest layer of consciousness and we feel sad too. Not being aware of the intricate causal relationships, we then translate this sadness ripple locally into our life as: “I feel low because I didn’t sleep well last night or maybe I didn’t eat enough or because that person said so and so”. Above and beyond these local reasons, the underlying reason can be completely different. Same with other emotions such as joy, peace etc.,

This is very clear: our happiness and sadness are inextricably linked to the happiness and sadness of the world. Even if we isolate ourselves, our consciousnesses can’t be isolated. To have well-being, we must strive for the well-being of all beings. The point isn’t to get demotivated by asking questions such as “Is it possible to end the suffering of all beings? Can I do so?” but to move in the direction of cultivating ever expanding compassion: we don’t exclude any being from the embrace of our compassion! Friend or foe, we love them all, because they are in us and we, in them~
