With an aspiration to find a way out of suffering for all beings, prince Siddhartha left behind the royal life to dwell in a forest. Being a prince, his tender feet never stepped on thorny paths nor did he ever have to endure storms and rains. In the forest, when he meditated he was so surprised to see that he was always sheltered. The legend says that the invisible Bodhisattva named Vajrapani (holder of diamond) secretly protected him and took care of him always.

Though we humans, for the sake of brevity, give form to formless, I believe Vajrapani is no different from Buddha’s strong energy of compassion. We all have such Vajrapani around us as well. Whenever we produce a thought full of compassion, whenever we have a deep volition to reduce the pain of other beings, this energy nourishes not only those around us, but nourishes us deeply. Compassion is the sun that not only lights up everything around, but also lights itself up.

We need to strongly believe in our capacity to generate compassion for this world. Nothing in ten worlds can harm those who are shielded by the energy of compassion. They may face hardships but they can quickly see through them. They’re always guided from within. This energy of compassion is the energy of god, energy of Jesus, energy of Buddha: not outside of us but inside of us~
