Put it down…

You have been carrying this heavy bag of hatred and anger for too long. Please keep it down for once and listen to me. Trust me when I say this: he or she certainly has no intention of hurting you. They didn’t mean to say and do those things. This is very true. It is only that they had been hurt since childhood and they never had the opportunity to experience the joy of not hurting others, of not generating negative thoughts and never had stability and peace long enough in their lives. So, they can only offer others what they have within. Looking deeply into this, do you still want to harbour anger towards them? Do you still wish to punish them? Don’t you feel compassion towards them?

“I didn’t have good childhood either, so why me?” — you ask. Well, why not you? — why can’t you be the fountain of compassion? Why can’t you be the one with a heart as large as cosmos? When you’re tired, this may look unrealistic. Please rest for now but promise me and yourself that you write this down on a piece of paper and return to it again and again:

You will not release your last breath until you extend loving kindness towards those who hurt you. You will not leave this world until you look deeply into him or her and generate compassion for them. You’ll not leave this world until you include every being in the circle of your love and do whatever you can to make others experience peace, the joy of not harming anyone and the joy of dwelling tenderly in this cosmos~
