It has been 30 years since Apple’s main competitor in China “Huawei” made its debut in 1987 when also KFC opened its first outlet there.

Launched in tribute to both chains thirty-year milestone in China, the commemorative version of the bright red KFC Huawei 7 plus came complete with 5.5-inch 720p display, a Snapdragon 435 SoC, a12MP camera, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage with microSD expansion up to 128 GB.

There’s also a fingerprint sensor on the back of the device. The sensor shares the back with a laser-etched Colonel Sanders logo emblazoned on its frame, as well as that historic year of 1987! Only 5,000 are made and each sold for USD 162 available via TMall platform which KFC already uses for deals on its food.

The phone comes with 10,000 K dollars, a digital currency used by KFC in China. There’s also a pre-installed music app that lets you create playlists and share them in the restaurant.

I thought last year’s KFC line of nail polish that makes nails tastes like fried chicken was the smartest marketing buzz until they did this now!

Finally, as the KFC chain continues to grow in China (last quarter saw a 4% increase in sales) we can expect Chinese cities to continue to be the testing ground for new brand themes. Just last week KFC opened a new “vegetarian” location in Hangzhou, which serves salads, fresh juice and beer as opposed to the standard breaded and fried fare the chain is famous for, what’s next KFC?!
