Clad in the colors of Dubai’s police uniform, “Robocop” is currently posing for selfies and snapchat stories. With no smile on its face, armed with technology from Google and IBM’ s supercomputer Watson: He or it never fails to amaze Dubai mall worldwide visitors!

Another significant step forward taken by UAE in the journey of making Dubai a leading force in smart cities and technology adoption. I only wished they added a female edition of it to take it to the next level of using internet of things.

Here we go again: Another sci-fi prediction from the Simpson is coming true. However, I would have preferred if it was similar to its cartoon version “Cyborganizer”, which only handled paperwork.

Afterall, what is this robot police officer capable of? And would this deffenseless cop have the competence to protect itself from being disabled, wracked or even hacked before protecting us?!
The prototype reveiled last year at the annual Dubai-based electronics trade show “GITEX” was basically an overrated machine with a touch screen interface. Using an integrated tablet on the robot’s midsection, people could report crimes, submit paperwork, and pay fines for traffic violations. It’s still unclear how or if the robot has been upgraded since then. Yet apparently, Dubai police were working with Watson, IBM’s AI system, on voice command & face recognition considering it “smart” enough to replace 25 percent of the city’s police force by 2030.

Now the main question remains, would citizens embrace this technology? Soon enough, no more breaks will be given for being respectful or sorry — offense noted, citation will be issued! And this is something scary. Is a strict law inforcer is what this world really need now or more humane approach to people?
