Day 3: Using Code Poetry to express emotions
A different way to write code
Intro:
In this project, I explored how to use code to express emotions. Code poetry is literature that combine traditional poems/text with computer code.
When people think about code, most people will think it is boring and unattractive. There are also some misconceptions that people may have hard time get interested in learning code. According to Murat, he states the reasons why learning code is tough:
Code is cryptic, purely functional and scary;
Code is meant for machines only, so people do not feel addressed or engaged;
Code is not treated as a language because it has a completely different use case and looks very different from anything they have seen before;
People think of stereotypes (evil hackers, maybe some Matrix dudes), and thus do not identify themselves with it.
As a DT student, I think it is really important to learn code and event treat it in some specific ways. Because codes are used for machine to understand, people need to think code as a really logical way. However, I believe we can also write code for people understand, with some story telling, narrative, emotions etc.
In summary, I want to use how I can use code poetry to express myself, and other possibilities of writing code.
Rules:
Create a Code Poem in any programming language: C, Python, LISP, Go, Pure Data, VRML, Java, etc. There are three requirements:
- It must be “code”
- It must be a “poem”
- It must run, which implies that it may need to compile, further implying instructions may be necessary
Iteration 1: Why did I choose DT?

Iteration 2: Romance

Iteration 3: In memories of Steve Jobs
