Hearing without understanding

Listening to songs

That are foreign to me

Written in a different language

Laughing because others are

Responding with words I’ve never even learned

Talking to people whose blood

Runs in my veins

I can feel no connection

Acting up

So close yet so far

Like I’m a million miles away

From another planet

Like I’m an alien

With another identity

All because I’m different.
