The Fever has Broken

No more hot flashes
and fighting to keep cool
while it passes.
Me pretending to be something I’m not
You seeing through it,
as I continually lost the plot.
My connection to you gone,
in the flicker of an eye,
you attacked my heart dead-on.
The imaginary heat between us
ran away over the hills,
seeing the truth, nothing left to discuss.
Although I do cry, I’m relieved as well.
No more trying and failing,
as I accept that we would never jell.
