I watched you when you were crying. When you were broken and incapable of being loved.

I watched you when you were furious. When you were so afraid and riley.

I watched you when you were happy. When you were glorious and exceptional.

And I watched you —

I watched you watch someone else

I watched you love her

I watched you need her

I watched you stare at your sunset

While I sat down and watched mine

And now, I’m still watching you —

I’m watching you state your vows. “To have and to hold
