If you can tell stories, create characters, devise incidents, and have sincerity and passion, it doesn’t matter a damn how you write.
– Somerset Maugham

About a year ago, I created my own publication here on Medium. At that time, I had online friends and other wonderful people who volunteered and agreed to build it with me.But, unfortunately, things in our personal lives have gone wild around September 2017. I still have a few people who continually write with us, but we’re starting to struggle.

I don’t want to go deeper on that for that is not your concern. The point is that I messed up the functional and active publication we used to have.

That’s why, now, I need your help to rebuild Makata Collections. If you are a writer, no matter what kind of literature you write — poetry, prose, fiction, non-fiction, novels. You are welcome here. You do not need perfect writing skills, we all are here to grow and learn. If you feel insecure about the way you write, we have writers and editors who could help you.

Do you have stories that, you think, need to be out there?

Do you have some poems that, you believe, could touch other people’s lives?

Do you simply want to write because you’re bored?

It really does not matter. At all.

Here are just a few things I need you to know if you’re interested:

  1. We don’t get paid to this; therefore, you won’t get paid to do this as well. We do this because it is our passion and because we believe voices deserve to be heard.
  2. We do this as a hobby; therefore, please, do not expect so much of us. If there are suggestions, corrections, or opinions that, you believe, need our action or attention, please let us know.
  3. We accept editors to help us learn and grow in writing. If you think you have enough time, skills, and passion to be one of the editors, let us know.
  4. We don’t promote hate speech such as any expression of racism, sexism, ableism, and other isms there are. Any authors submitting to Makata Collections who show any elements of hate will be blocked.

I have a lot more to say but I’ll leave it for later.

If you’re interested in being a part of our publications, below are the steps to be added as one of the writers:

If you are a Medium user already:

  • Post a response below this post expressing that you would like to be added as a writer/ editor.
  • Submit your story to the publication.

If you are reading this from another platform/website:

  • Create your own account on Medium. (this would give you more freedom on when and where you want to publish your own story and there are also hundreds of other publications on Medium that we suggest you join)
  • Write a response below this post expressing that you would like to be added as one of the writers.
  • When added, submit your draft to the publication. This is done by first clicking on your picture on the upper right-hand side on your Medium timeline. Then click on “New Story”. DO NOT click on the ‘Publish’ button for we won’t be able to publish it on our page, but on your page. Then click on the three dots just on the right side of the ‘Publish’ button. There will be a drop- down list, click on ‘Add to Publication’. Makata Collections will then appear and simply tick the circular button.
  • The editors will then review your work and publish it as soon as the editing/proofreading is done.

I know the steps and guidelines sound a bit complicated but once you get the hang of it, it gets simple.

We hope to see you around and we hope we could write together in the future.

Editors may make some changes in this post in the future.*
