The Sticky Note is Evolving. Featured above: the iconic yellow paper Post-It® Brand sticky note, introduced in 1977 by 3M.

There are a lot of companies trying to wedge a new device into your life. Any thing can join The Internet of Things, it seems. The question is not if something can be connected to the internet, but why? Why will that additional screen or new context be better? Is it more helpful? I believe the bar for new tech has got to be daily utility. Taking a proven tool and making it even more useful.

We Looked at Solving Some Daily Problems

With the noise of notifications and the (at times) manic pace of modern life, vital information slips right by, causing problems:

  • Leaving home without an umbrella
  • Forgetting lunch in the fridge
  • Darting out the door only to sit in delays at the platform or in the car
  • Missing an important note because it’s buried in notifications
  • Fumbling with a smartphone for access to smart home controls

If you’re like us, when all else fails, you wind up writing yourself a sticky note, posting it right on the door. A Post-it® works for lunch reminders, but it certainly won’t help with things like notifications or controls.

A Paper Note Sticks, The Habit Might Not

Not only is a sticky note not a catch-all solution, it’s not a once-and-for-all type of thing, either. Writing and posting a note is a manual process. These things can’t write themselves, so this is a habit you must develop. After all, once you do write a note, the clock is ticking. That information will expire. Stickies are great — they’re just static, and limited.

We Made it Better

The best part about a sticky note is that you can stick one up and it’s just there — where you won’t miss it. So how do you build on that? Well, a digital sticky note can provide easy access to vital information. Like a regular note, it could be written and posted anywhere. But unlike it’s paper cousin, it could write itself and get better with use.

The team and I at MoonRoof Labs built a device to do just that. Like a personal assistant, it predictively presents notes, important updates, and even smart home controls right where you need to see them.

SeeNote™

SeeNote is a proven tool, improved. An always-on, digital sticky note with an ePaper touchscreen and a friendly full-color LED alerts system we call KnowGlow. SeeNote’s got a battery that lasts for weeks on a single charge, so it can be placed anywhere in your home or office. It’s totally wireless, (that means apartment friendly) and designed to be easily accessed at a glance. It’s a sticky note your smartphone wrote. It opens for pre-order at $99 starting Thursday, March 31st. It will retail for $129. Head over to our site to sign up for exlusive email updates and access to special pricing. We hope that you’ll join us as we bring something new into view.
