Christmas Orphan

Seven hundred miles from the holiday ham,

Not able to afford flight, I am,

Got enough for a film and egg foo yun,

Still great but not as fun,

Christmas orphan is tough when family so big,

People who sometimes can be insane, yet love this holiday gig,

Every card, check, and gift I receive,

Not the same through US Mail I believe,

Maybe for Easter I may come over,

By G-d, sooner moreover,

Flights delayed, snowing buckets outside,

May be best to wait when cars won’t slide,

Next year I come bringing gifts,

Staying put this year wasn’t much a lift.
