Meet A Syrian Born In America — Part 1

Check out our video series with Abir to get a personal look at how Trump’s immigration agenda is damaging to our legal immigrants.

Letter From The Editor:

Living in America has become a place where feeling shame is an afterthought in regards to U.S. immigration policies. Riots and public unrest across the country has sparked a debate on not just our country’s value system, but has placed a scrutinizing eye on what it really means when we say America is a melting pot.

Our President Donald Trump has made unexplainable decisions for our country in every facet, with immigration a large part of his vision, which many Americans find questionable. By now, the country understands Trump’s views on undocumented immigration and the large numbers of undocumented people in the U.S. taking advantage of citizen benefits.

Sometimes we have to take a step back and look at how our country’s decisions affect the lives of legal immigrants in the U.S. I was able to get a first-hand experience from a Syrian-American college student’s experience during our immigration crisis. During our interview, Abir (last name withheld), daughter to Syrian immigrants living in the U.S., explained the several prejudices she endures and can only hope for others to understand the journey of immigration.

Sincerely,
