There are so many benefits to using a weekly sugar scrub. Whether you are choosing to create a gift for a friend or want to indulge in a home pampering session this Coffee Sugar Body Scrub recipe is easy to create.

Caffeine, a natural antioxidant

Exfoliate dead skin cells

Scrubs are used to exfoliate the skin to remove dead skin cells. They open and clear the pores removing dirt, leaving skin feeling smooth and cleansed. A sugar scrub is ideal for use on the body rather than the face. For the face, a finer exfoliant such as ground rice or oats is required.

Whilst this recipe is a perfectly lovely scrub to use as part of your weekly regime, it is also great when tackling cellulite. By stimulating and encouraging blood circulation we are helping to remove toxins from the body.

Cellulite is simply fat under the skin. It’s not going to cause any serious problems. The noticeable effects of cellulite being the cottage cheese orange peel effect, are due to fat pressing against connective tissue. Diet and exercise play an important part in preventing and treating cellulite too.

Coffee gives this sugar body scrub a wonderful aroma

Coffee Sugar Scrub

4 tbsp Coconut Oil — leaves skin feeling smooth, moisturised and nourished

2 tbsp Sugar — great exfoliant, but also our aim is to give a vigorous massage to the area in a bid to break down the congestion. Choose caster sugar for a finer, softer scrub or granulated for a coarser scrub.

2 tbsp Coffee granules (filter coffee rather than instant) — there are different theories on why coffee granules should be used. Majority opinion is that it tightens blood vessels temporarily therefore giving the appearance of tighter skin.

7 drops Essential oils — Grapefruit, Carrot Seed, Rosemary, Fennel, Bergamot, Geranium, Mandarin

(I used a blend of 4 drops Grapefruit, 2 drops Rosemary and 1 drop Carrot Seed)

Use granulated sugar for a coarser scrub or caster sugar for a finer scrub

To make

Mix all the ingredients together and spoon into a clean container

This scrub will have a shelf life of 2–3 months. This product does not contain a preservative and therefore care needs to be taken to ensure water does not come into contact with the product. It is best to use a scoop to remove the scrub from the jar before getting into the shower.

Store in a cool dark place.

To use

Gently rub onto the body in circular motions.

Rinse off.

Follow with body brushing,
