We released another monthly software update. The plan going forwards is to do two software updates each month. In this update we have some interesting things added to MakeMySummary.

Twitter Integration

The usual question that we get is why summarize tweets, they are already in short enough formats. While that is true, 140 or 280 characters are short, but frequently the tweeters will post an URL that they think is relevant to what they are saying. Or, retweet a relevant tweet. Both of them may contain an URL pointing to a webpage, YouTube video etc.

While the tweet text is valuable, but the linked content in the tweet can be just as, or more valuable. But again the problem of TL;DR comes into play and its plain easy to skip reading the webpage or YouTube video or the podcast that was shared. Worry not, MakeMySummary has you covered —

  1. Now you can follow a twitter user and summarize any linked content they share via their tweets. You can also summarize previous posts containing linked content they have posted — See video below.
  2. Additionally, you can now summarize the linked content in any Tweet. Just drop in a tweet URL in the Webpage section

The reason why this feature was developed is also interesting. What we have observed and gotten feedback is this:

  1. Twitter is great for following prominent publications like MIT Technology Review, Harvard Business Review, Wired, etc. almost all publications have presence in Twitter.
  2. It also Excellent for following thought leaders in business, finance and tech like Paul Graham, Prof. Scott Galloway, Benedict Evans or Elon Musk etc.
  3. The updates are personal and more frequent than podcast or blog feeds,
  4. There is simply more things happening on the Twitter-verse than elsewhere, so it makes sense to integrate with it. And its large and overflowing with information and summarizing it is valuable.
  5. Is Twitter a force for good? that is besides the point, but it is the arena where things are happening, hence this integration.

De-duplication

Frequently, the same source content is shared by multiple people, publication and feeds. With integration of Twitter, this a more frequent occurrence. Add to the mix, professional social media management and paid advertisement, you get the same content over and over again. Sapping your energy, sanity and causing all kinds of clutter.

MakeMySummary, carefully filters out the duplicate content that has been summarized already. Only the non duplicated content is sent out when asked for. But worry not, even the duplicated content is marked as duplicate and kept aside for your reference. Just that when you use MakeMySummary via Zapier integration of using our 1/3/6 Hourly or Daily summary digest only the de-duplicated content is served. Also, the duplicated posts don't count towards the monthly quota for the plan you are in (including the free plan).

Thus, making your Zapier Zaps zippier and summary email digests crisper and shorter. Which was the raison d’etre (the reason to be) for MakeMySummary at the first place: to de-cluter, simplify and make sense of the fire hose of information everyone is now exposed to — Corona, Black Lives Matter, Economic slowdown, Racism, China, Tiktok …. there is too much to keep track of in any meaningful way.

Historical Posts, Tweets and Podcasts

When you configure our Blog, Podcast or Twitter Integration, all posts taking place in the future are automatically summarized. But you weren’t able to summarize posts that was done in the past.

Now, from this release onward, you can select the historical posts on each of the integrations. You can select the individual posts that you may want to summarize. Just click on the post and its added to the summary list.

Bug fixes

As any software encounters bugs, we too have our fair share of bugs to deal with. We have fixed several in this this release and some of the prominent ones are listed here:

  1. Graceful handling of content behind pay walls like Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg
  2. Graceful handling of image only sites like Instagram and Pinterest
  3. Graceful handling of non Youtube video sites like Vimeo and Wistia etc. Although, Vimeo will be supported in the near future
  4. Reduced instances of summarizing errors, as we made changes to our underlying summarizing AI
