PEOPLE

Two years ago, Chris Roberts and Rob Evans began the With Love Project. A project to seek and meet various makers and designers on a nationwide adventure.

Together, they interview those who are driven with a passion and purpose for their work. Scouring the country and beyond, the curious duo have relentlessly ventured, reaching the far corners of the land to ask their key stone question;

”WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO?”

PROCESS

Not necessarily being ‘makers’ themselves, the itinerant duo share a familiar fondness for the road less travelled. By stepping inside the varying environments of each maker, Chris and Rob capture an invaluable glimpse inside the ongoings of each creative operation.

Typically hectic, the day to day schedule of a creative is often misunderstood, alienating and commonly deemed unsociable. It could be said that the calibre of the With Love project is born of reciprocation; recognition of their comparible efforts.

IF SOMEONE TRAVELLED HUNDREDS OF MILES TO DOCUMENT AND CELEBRATE YOUR WORK, IT WOULD FEEL PRETTY SPECIAL. YOU COULD NEVER DECLINE SUCH INTENTION.

Chris and Rob’s journey has led them as far as the Isle of Skye to the southern tip of Cornwall.

No other journey better exemplifies their endeavours than their recent UK wide road trip that they undertook last year. In a Land Rover Defender, Chris and Rob plotted and picked their way through a 2,500 mile journey from the top of the country in Harris Scotland down to Devon on the South coast.

The journey took the pair twelve days to complete, each day a chapter in a journey titled; “The Backbone of Britain”.

“It’s our search to find people who produce things with a passion and a purpose, who truly care about what they do and what they make.”

“We’ve travelled from the top to the bottom of the country — from the outer hebrides to the tip of cornwall.”

“We asked everyone we met the same question… why do you do what you do?”

Having spent twelve days on the road, the pair describe the experiences of their adventures and the calibre of people of which they have spoken to;

“So far we’ve met nearly 40 inspiring individuals, who we’ve either found, heard about or been introduced to. We’ve been humbled by their openness and enthused by their work and attitude. Some days we’ve driven for ten hours to meet people; other days we’ve ventured out of the UK.

Each and every journey is filled with excitement and anticipation of hearing another great story; an insight into someone’s thinking, their way of life and a chunk of knowledge and advice to hold on to. We have met traditional furniture makers at the top of their game, motorcycle manufacturers hand-building by eye, wheelwrights who can trace their family trade back to the 1300s and tailors who’ve produced suits for Pavarotti.

Each one of these people has let us into their world after just a phone call or an email, understanding what we are trying to achieve and happy to share what they are producing.”

PRODUCT

One would ask why the duo undertakes such a project, visiting regions of varying remoteness. Excitingly, this question has been answered in the form of a hard back edition book.

For the likeminded and provenance proactive, the book features more than 30 of the creative makers they have interviewed. The book itself will showcase their ongoing efforts, tribute not only to those featured in the book but their entire endeavour so far.

THE WITH LOVE BOOK. A HARD BACK EDITION HIGHLIGHTING THE ENRAPTURING STORIES OF MORE THAN 30 OF THE MAKERS THEY HAVE MET.

“This is a truly unique book of inspiring people, creating things with a passion and a purpose.”

Our thanks to Chris & Rob
