Welcome to the May 2020 edition of the MakersPlace Newsletter, where we feature the latest updates from the artists, collectors and the company. This month we’re excited to share updates on our recent Drop program, notable artists and collectors, and some of our newest features.
Drops 🔥
In the beginning of the year, we launched our drop program. Each week we feature original, never-before-seen artworks by leading digital artists on MakersPlace. We’re excited to say that our drops have been overwhelmingly successful for both the artists featured and our collectors. Our Drops serve as a great way for collectors to discover new artists each week, as well as an opportunity for artists to gain exposure across our community and of course sell their artworks.

Artist Spotlight
This month we’re highlighting Javier Arrés. Arrés is a world-renown motion / GIF artist and a 2019 London Art Biennale winner.
Arrés is known for his manically detailed illustrations of fantastical scenery from cities, architecture and machines. He further brings these worlds to life through what he calls “Visual Toys”, where he invites the viewer into a fantastical world, inspiring the viewer to play with their imaginations.
A long-time artist on MakersPlace, we recently featured Arrés in a Drop this past month featuring an original Visual Toy and a first every crypto-inspired piece which represented the volatile yet exciting world of cryptocurrencies — Crypto Toy Coin. Through an epic and exciting auction which involved three prominent collectors, the piece sold for 13.2 ETH (~$2045) to collector CollectibleArt_C4A.
Since the auction, Arrés’ Visual Toys have become highly sought-after, with collectors such as Moderats, j1mmy, Whaleshark_C4A and others scooping up his limited editions artworks. This past month alone, Arrés sold over 50ETH+ worth of his works.

New Features
This month, the team rolled out a number of improvements based on the feedback from our artist community. The majority of these features were aimed at making it easier to sell on MakersPlace.
Simplified Updating and Setting of Prices
Admittedly, updating prices have been a bit challenging on MakersPlace, since it involved cancelling the sale first. This month we introduced a new and improved update flow, which works as expected. Just update the price with your new price and we take care of everything!
We also added a new feature, which allows you to automatically apply the same price to all future editions of your works. Now, when you set a price, you have the option to “Apply price to all future editions”. If your artwork sells, we’ll automatically apply the same price to your next edition.
Bid Minimums
Artists have long asked for the ability to set a minimum bid amount on their artworks. You can now set this in your store settings page.
By default, the minimum bid amount is 0, but if you wish to set a minimum amount, you can specify a value in ETH.
Collaborations (BETA)
We’re excited to have launched a BETA version of our new collaborations feature. We now support the ability for artists to collaborate on a single artwork and automatically split and payout the proceeds when the artwork sells. Collaborators will also be shown in all public places across the site, artwork page, proof of authenticity and more.
The feature is still in BETA, but if you’re interested in trying it out, please let us know on Discord.
