New paper: Dangerous deadlines

I am a co-author on a new Nature Climate Change commentary this week: “Why setting a climate deadline is dangerous”. The paper was led by Shinichiro Asayama, with Rob Bellamy, Oliver Geden and Mike Hulme. We focus on the recent resurgence in ‘deadline talk’ following the publication of the IPCC’s SR15 report in 2018, and think through some of the consequences that may be associated with headlines such as “We have 12 years to limit climate change catastrophe”, which was one of the mst widely shared climate stories on social media in 2018.
