Cosmo Knights is a comic novel written by Hannah Templer. The adventurous tale of a trio of rebels who strive to free princesses trapped in forced mariages across the galaxy. In the beginning of the story Pan, knocks on the window of her best friend Tara, who is the princess of their world. The two sneak out to hang out for a few hours. That night Tara cried to Pan that she wanted to escape her forced wedding and Pan helped her escape a few nights later. Years later, two injured cosmo knights, Bee and Cass, stumble upon Pan’s house and ask for help. She tends to their wounds and the three discuss how messed up the system is. They decide that they will fight for the princesses across the galaxy to free them of their predetermined destiny.

This picture serves a pivotal moment in the story. This is the moment the gladiators first make contact with Pan. The three talk over their plan to free every princess in the galaxy. Pan’s world however doesn’t take kindly to off-worlders and the father asks the gladiators to leave. But, Pan’s thirst for adventure is too great. She ends up stowing away on their ship. After she’s eventually caught Bee and Cass force her off at the next stop and instruct her to walk to the nearest shuttle station and go home. This would be the last time Bee and Cass see Pan… or so they thought. After having a few beverages and sizing up the competition at a local gladiator bar, they realized they were being followed by a suspicious new enemy. They flee, but ultimately run out of options when suddenly…

This is yet another pivotal moment in the story. Pan seems destined for greatness and in this moment she proves it by saving the duo of gladiators from a mysterious unknown fo. After a few days the gladiators prepare for the games. Pan and this mystery woman sneak in together and radio in into bee and cass info to help them win! And after the trio is met again by the woman who reveals she also part of the resistance and wants to take things to the next level. This very exciting ending serves as a launch point for a story that it just getting started. Wonderful story that I enjoyed reading very much.

The art of the book is classic superhero comic book. Which is certainly my personal favorite because when I think of comics, I think superhero. I also enjoyed the color scheme Hannah Templer chose. I think the tone of the colors fit very nicely with female empowerment and intergalactic themes. The main characters are also very nicely developed. You can see how both their attitudes form from each panel. Another thing I noticed was the panel formation. The panels had no set box to box organization. I think that the use of different panels or often no panels really worked in her favor and was a great idea. She also alternated from telling the story with some sort of action and just a picture of the setting. I think this was a great idea to further enhance the setting and make sure the reader knows the story and can follow it easily. Furthermore, Hannah’s illustrations are very colorful and compelling and I think without color the story would lose a great deal. The characters were very impressionable and as the reader, I found myself routing for them every page.

I would recommend this story to any and all comic book readers and hope in the future to read more from Hannah Templer.
