We live in a world where the youths are now looked upon to take charge and actively drive positive changes for societal transformation. We hope that the story of Azariah will be one to inspire many other youths and show what is possible when you apply drive and determination despite your circumstance.

Who is Azariah?

A vibrant young boy with so much potential. Azariah worked as an accounting intern for one of Paga’s top tier agent for over 24 months after graduating from secondary school — In this period, he gathered relevant business skills and experience that was to be a prelude to his five-year degree course in computer science at the University of Lagos.

For Azariah working in a top Paga agent outlet helped him to both realize and utilize his passion for computers. He learnt how he could leverage technology to impact lives of thousands of people. Paga helped him to understand the necessary attributes needed for a successful business.

The three key lessons he learnt at Paga were: 1)Always work at your own pace 2) When things get hard you don’t have to lay down and 3) In every business there needs to be honesty, there needs to be trust between, the merchant and the customer.

Paga provided Azariah with many lessons, what makes his story so amazing is his work ethic.

An example of what made him stand out is the fact that he was the youngest employee to actively manage a top Paga agent account, yet he was entrusted with a significant level of responsibility by his managers. Mr Samuel, his manager and mentor entrusted Azariah with the accounting for his multiple Paga outlets. He was solely responsible for consolidating the books ensuring that all the figures for thousands of transactions worth millions of naira does balance. Accounting is a task that even experienced professionals can struggle with, yet Azariah did not only complete his tasks, he did his job incredibly well.

However, what impressed us the most was how passionate he was about his education, and how he never compromised his school work even while learning on the job. He was a top scoring student who impressed his professors at school as much as he impressed his bosses at work.

Unfortunately, Azariah passed away before he could achieve his full potential.

We want to remember Azariah and honor his true brilliance. He helped make the Paga experience a reality in his community. Although he is no longer with us, his story will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts of those who knew him and read his story.

In honor of Azariah, we presented his sisters with a full scholarship to any national university, college or polytechnic of their choice, so they could attain the education he worked so hard to provide for and so they know that in the short time he was with us, he made a great impact, and his legacy will live on through them.

May his soul rest in peace.
