A New Year Doesn’t Have to Mean a New You
The seasons and the Moon offer an alternative approach to time.
Did you wake up this January first feeling the same? Maybe you are one of the people who thrive this time of year and feel inspired to set goals, change your life and start again. Or perhaps you are like the rest of us who don’t care about the New year, new you hype. Maybe you see through the marketing campaigns targeting you to get in shape, start a new diet or buy some product that will make this “your year.” Or perhaps you feel something more profound. Because really, January 1st is just the start of another calendar year. But what is a calendar year?
In his book, 13 Moons In Motion, Jose Arguelles highlights our current calendar’s unquestioned presence in our lives:
Of all the unexamined assumptions and criteria upon which we base and gauge our daily lives as human beings on planet Earth, by far the greatest and most profoundly unquestioned is the instrument and institution known as the Gregorian Calendar.
