Good enough

Time and money aside, designers never stop refining something until it’s “good enough”. Right?

What’s good enough? We are taught to iterate. Make as much as you can, to cover as much ground as possible, with as many variations as you might muster. Even when you’ve reached a point where everything that emerged from your brain and hands was crap — Make More. Then, when you’ve run out of time or money, stop and look to pick the best. Rinse and repeat.

Strive to make the best. Never less. Anything less is a failure.

Sometimes I’ll make a first version and be like “this is pretty good lol”, but that obedient-trained-designer-dog bred inside emphatically rejects the possibility that an inceptive attempt could possibly be “good enough”.

I must Make More — there’s no way I could have done that Right the first time. I might’ve missed out on that perfect solution.

This stresses me to no end. I feel guilty that I haven’t made 10 iterations of this signed out home page, even though I’m perfectly happy with what I’ve made on the first shot.

Hollerback @tarngerine if you feel the same :|
