Buzz Aldrin hologram headed to GDC 2017
Conference-goers can snap photos and videos with #HoloBuzz in mixed reality ahead of the astronaut’s VR debut
We’re thrilled to have been invited by Google to showcase #HoloBuzz at GDC 2017 (booth #1424) this week in San Francisco. On Wednesday, March 1 through Friday, March 3, attendees will have the opportunity to “meet” a photorealistic 3D hologram of Buzz Aldrin on 8i’s Holo beta app, powered by Tango, and take a photo or video with the celebrated astronaut.
#HoloBuzz descends on GDC to promote the historic icon’s legacy VR experience, “Buzz Aldrin: Cycling Pathways to Mars,” which we’re excited to premiere later this month at SXSW. This world’s-first room-scale legacy VR project archives Dr. Aldrin’s hologram for future generations as he shares his plan to create a human settlement on Mars and takes viewers on a journey from the moon to the red planet. The piece was made possible thanks to our partners Time Inc. and Soylent, and will be coming soon to LIFE VR.
If you’re at GDC, please come by and snap a photo or video with #HoloBuzz in the South Hall. The Aldrin showcase follows our recent announcement that Holo, a consumer mobile app that gives people an easy way to create mixed reality content with holograms, will be launching later this year. Holo lets users add holograms to their real-world environments and take videos and photos they can share with friends across their social channels and messaging apps. We’re excited to see what sort of fun mixed reality videos GDC-goers create with #HoloBuzz.
