On #DayoftheGirl, let’s celebrate girls — and invest in them, too

Advocates around the world — just like you and me — are coming together today on International Day of the Girl to support every girl’s right to learn and lead.

To me, this day is incredibly important. Growing up, I followed my father wherever his work took him and we made a home in several countries: India, Mongolia, Bangladesh and Papua New Guinea, to name a few. I learned early on that whether in poverty, a refugee crisis or a natural disaster, women and girls are most vulnerable — and that’s why we need to do even more to ensure they aren’t held back.

Today we have that opportunity! The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation agreed to match every donation made to Malala Fund through our Facebook page — up to $125,000. That means your gift will have double the impact for girls around the world.

Will you join me today, on International Day of the Girl, and make a matched donation to the Malala Fund Facebook page for girls’ education?

Malala Fund is supporting programmes that reach the most vulnerable girls — from creating safe spaces for girls in Northern Nigeria, to training young Pakistani women as activists, to providing STEM education to Syrian refugees.

But we can’t fund these programmes without your generous contributions. And for a limited time, your donation will go twice as far for girls.

Like Malala, I believe that we can see every girl in school in my lifetime. But only if we invest in girls now.

Contribute $5 to Malala Fund today on Facebook — and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will double your donation.

Thank you and Happy International Day of the Girl.
