Happy Spring my beloved readers, allow me to start this new year of growth with some fun creative writing prompts based on the Rider Waite Smith tarot deck. I’ve picked the cards below to represent the start of a journey, or the difficult points within a journey that require a push or stepping back. The first card’s worth of prompts are all free, paid subscriptions (on So My Muse Says) allow you to see the other cards. The three I’ve picked this month are The Fool, Two of Wands, and the Queen of Swords.

I hope you have a fruitful April, friends!

The Fool:

Card 0 in the Rider Waite Smith deck shows us an innocent soul as they embark on their journey of life experiences. In the context of this deck, Fool refers to someone who lacks experience, and isn’t considered an insult as long as that someone is open to experience. This is an optimistic beginner ready to embrace all the lessons that life has to offer. What a beautiful feeling, to sit at the start of a journey and daydream about the possibilities through the lens of hope.

In its reversed position, the Fool may indicate that you’re well into your life journey, but there’s a part of you that hasn’t been explored. Instead of outward exploration, you need to look inward and see what part of you isn’t as developed as it could be. How much better could all of your inner parts be if you did this?

The nature of this card leads to an obvious piece of advice: be open to new experiences, find something about a situation to enjoy or to learn from. There’s always something to grab onto, what is it?

The prompts for this card are:

  • What forms of art have always drawn your appreciation?
  • What would it feel like to be a new, innocent soul in a new body?
  • When was the last time you were a Fool?
  • If you were to start a particular journey again, what small tool would you slip into your bag?

Thank you for reading friends! The other two cards and their prompts are on my substack as linked above, and I make these posts monthly. Most of my other substack posts are free as well. If you want to check them out, that would be great!

See ya next time,

Rose
