If you missed out on the six hour Budget lockup (!), below are 5 key elements of Our Plan for a Stronger Economy:

  • Tax relief to encourage and reward working Australians
  • Backing business to invest and create more jobs
  • Guaranteeing the essential services Australians rely on
  • Keeping Australians safe
  • Ensuring the Government continues to live within its means.

Hear from Australians like Steve, Jo, Nicole, and Nick on how this Plan is going to make a difference — whether its helping businesses invest, easing the costs of living pressures, or being able to fund life-changing medicines.

Want to know more about what Budget 2018 means for you? Watch and share the quick clip below.

One of the highlights of Budget 2018 is the news that the strong economic management means we’ll be bringing the Budget back into balance a year earlier. It’s important that we are living within our means so that we’re not passing mountains of debt onto future generations.

For a different perspective, here are just a few reflections from industry leaders on what they think about some of the measures in the budget.

Ken Morrison, Chief Executive Property Council of Australia

The Budget goes long on infrastructure and overwhelmingly funds the right projects.

Danny Broad Australiasian Rail Association

All in all this is an investment of $7.9 billion to rail in Australia, which is good for our economy, jobs and our cities.

John Brogden, CEO Lifeline:

This additional $33.8 million demonstrates strong leadership and commitment from the Turnbull Government.

For 55 years Lifeline has been there for Australians in crisis and at risk of suicide. We applaud this significant commitment from the Government to ensure we can help save more lives and help more people find their path to recovery.

Luke Sayers, CEO PwC Australia

Just as personal tax cuts benefit workers and their families, reducing the corporate rate will attract and retain foreign investment, stimulate wages growth, create jobs and boost our economy. This is not theoretical — we know that the tax cuts received by small businesses in the 2015 Budget enabled them to invest and hire more staff.

Dr Michael Gannon, Australian Medical Association

The Government is to be congratulated on its ongoing commitment to medical research, and for its positive contribution to improving Indigenous health, especially eye health, ear health, and remote dialysis.

John Schubert, Chairman Great Barrier Reef Foundation

Today’s major investment brings real solutions within our grasp. These funds represent an unequaled opportunity to create a legacy of hope for future generations.

Professor Andrew Holmes, President Australian Academy of Science

“This is a good budget for science.

“It reflects the long-term and strategic approach that is needed for Australia to benefit from science and innovation at a global scale.”
