Time to Tell Yourself “It’s Okay”

Time seems to not work in your favor when you need it to

When you’re looking forward to something, time drags. When you’re dreading an upcoming event, time goes by too quickly. At least that’s the case for me. Regardless, you never have enough of it. But, when you become a mother you discover the real value of time.

I once saw a post regarding time broken down and to stop making excuses for not working out. This particular post came from a man who broke down a 24-hour day, dividing it up by work and things that may occur but always finding plenty of time to prioritize his workout. Not to throw all men or dads under the bus, but time is different when you’re a mother, in my opinion.

In addition, I’ve become truly annoyed at those stating they don’t have time to do certain things such as working out, eating healthy, cleaning, and reading. I will be the first to admit, looking back at my old self, I wonder what I did with all my free time. It seemed to disappear quickly between friends, going out, and of course, binge-watching series. And I, too, would claim, “I didn’t have time.”

This post isn’t to say “poor me” but to say — give yourself grace, mom!

I am now a mother of two under two and don’t have much time to myself throughout the day, and it’s okay — for now.

Managing your time well

‘The reason it irritates me when others say they don’t have time (when they do) is they tend to project that I am not managing my time well and that is why I am not accomplishing the things I “should.”

I wanted to do a breakdown of my day with children, a full-time job, and managing my time. However, time is relevant to you and your life and we shouldn’t compare each other or try to claim we are busier than one another.

Time is precious

Time is always precious, but I feel in this moment in life, time is even more precious. Having an almost 2-year-old and a 5-month-old, they change so quickly. I am trying to embrace the little time of the day I do have with them.

I value time much differently than when I wasn’t a mother. Now, when I have moments to myself I can choose to either sit in silence doing nothing or hustle to get a side project done. I also feel all the things you doubted you couldn’t do before, you should now feel this new sense of empowerment.

You gave birth — You can do ANYTHING you set your mind to!

Being thankful for your time

Be thankful for all the moments you have not only with your children but for when you have time to yourself. Others will never know the burdens and time constraints mothers carry until they experience firsthand.

You may not be able to control all aspects of your time throughout the day but when you do have control use it wisely or how you want to use it.
