Why Women Vote Trump?
“They” keep saying that women don’t support Donald Trump.
“They” say he isn’t good for women or our families.
“They” say we’re supposed to vote for Hillary Clinton because we share the same body parts.
Believe it or not, after 11 sexual assault allegations, 3 wives, 2 failed marriages, and less than 1 day left with this election, women are still voting Donald Trump for president. Why?
Because he’s progressive.
Trump is an anomaly. He is a change from the establishment. He’s brash. He’s rich. He’s unapologetic. He’s unlike any candidate ever seen before in an American election. Though it could be argued that Trump is the most unqualified presidential nominee of all time, there is no denying the success he has had on the trail so far.
June 16, 2015: The day Trump announced his candidacy. He began his campaign with the promise that he would “Make America Great Again.” In the months following his audacious statement, Trump managed to prove his seriousness and persuaded 1,447 delegates in 2016 Presidential Primaries.
Perhaps what is most surprising, however, is that Trump has done relatively well among women, and is a tough competitor for front runner, Hillary Clinton. The Washington Post reflected on the primaries, stating, “His support among some Republican women, who are largely white, is rooted in his constant refrain that the nation is headed in the wrong direction.”
October 10, 2016: The media claimed that Trump had his “worst week” to date, and as November 8th inches closer, Americans are beginning to see his campaign crack. On October 8, Donald Trump boasted in vulgar terms about kissing, groping, and trying to have sex with women during a 2005 conversation with Billy Bush.
“When you’re a star, they let you do anything…I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything,” he said. “Grab ’em by the p — y.”
And with the release of this tape, came the release of reality; “I do not support Hillary, but I just can’t let this man become president,” said Pat, a middle-aged woman from Swarthmore Pennsylvania.
“I am afraid of what he could do with all that power,” said a mother of two from Scranton Pennsylvania.
As the minutes slowly count down to the final decision, it’s important for people, especially women, to understand what comes next. If Trump does indeed get elected, what important women’s issues will he focus on?
- On the issue of abortion: “I support the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act and urge Congress to pass this bill. A ban on elective abortions after 20 weeks will protect unborn children. We should not be one of seven countries that allows elective abortions after 20 weeks. It goes against our core values,” said Trump.
The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act “amends the federal criminal code to prohibit any person from performing or attempting to perform an abortion except in conformity with this Act’s requirements…Prohibits an abortion from being performed if the probable post-fertilization age of the unborn child is 20 weeks or greater, except:…”
Trump attempted to defend his claim about abortion and womens rights in the third and final Presidential debate on Wednesday, October 19. When asked what he would do if he had the power to overturn Roe vs. Wade, he struggled to take a stand:
TRUMP: Well, if that would happen, because I am pro-life, and I will be appointing pro-life judges, I would think that that will go back to the individual states.
WALLACE: But I’m asking you specifically. Would you like to…
TRUMP: If they overturned it, it will go back to the states.
WALLACE: But what I’m asking you, sir, is, do you want to see the court overturn — you just said you want to see the court protect the Second Amendment. Do you want to see the court overturn Roe v. Wade?
TRUMP: Well, if we put another two or perhaps three justice on, that’s really what’s going to be — that will happen. And that’ll happen automatically, in my opinion, because I am putting pro-life justices on the court. I will say this: It will go back to the states, and the states will then make a determination.
Secretary Clinton responded: “Donald has said he’s in favor of defunding Planned Parenthood. He even supported shutting the government down to defund Planned Parenthood,” which he rightfully admitted in a 2015 interview with Hugh Hewitt.
With less than a day left until the next President is elected, some Americans believe the election is already over; Surprisingly enough, the loyal Trump women continue to prove their existence, publicizing their support for the Republican using the twitter hashtag “#WomenWhoVoteTrump.”
This election has truly been opinionated; rules, standards, and views have been shifted out of proportions, and women were often the topic of conversation. Americans have come a long way in the past 100 years, and time is the only way to find out what is next for women.
