The dad’s POV

Usually when people become new parents it feels like a huge fundamental change in your existence.

Another way to look at it is that when you become a new parent you don’t necessarily change, but a new chamber of yourself opens up, one that you’ve never had the chance to experience until becoming a parent.

This new chamber is full of different emotions, different views, different values than those you’ve been used to thus far.

It takes time to get to know this new chamber of yourself.

And while you’re getting to know your own new chamber, your partner is getting to know their own new chamber.

This is partly why the first months and even years of new parenthood may seem so challenging for new parents.

While you’re getting to know your chamber and your partner is getting to know theirs, the two of you are also attempting to get to know these new parts of one another.

This takes time. And we as new parents have to give ourselves that time, that patience, that grace.

In a way it’s like dating again.
