Regarding Your Unexpected Membership Cancellation
Hi folks!
Apologies to everyone who wasn’t formerly a member of ZEALOT through Medium, but, this is seemingly the only option we currently have to reach folks so!
The short version if you’re reading this on the bus or in the bathroom stall at work because you’re just killing some time on your shift:
Medium ended the subscription program without advance notice, so we’re reconsolidating back to Patreon. For the same price as before ($5+), you can continue to support ZEAL AND continue to get exclusive ZEALOT videos every month.
The longer version for if you LOVE reading:
A lot of you probably noticed this morning (or eventually) that Medium sent out emails about your membership to ZEAL ending. This is not, as the emails were phrased, due to you ending your membership. Instead, it’s because Medium has completely shut the program down, swapping out direct subscriptions for publications you want to support with to a system where you buy a membership for all exclusive content on Medium for $5/month and in return you can hit a button on exclusive content and the writers of the piece will receive some fraction of your subscription cost that will be calculated, without transparency, by Medium.
No clickbait though. They’re called claps now, not clicks or likes.
A few of you have already reached out to us, which we appreciate, as without that we would’ve probably gone a few more days until we actually found out what was going on. Medium didn’t really announce this anywhere, or tell us, or tell our subscribers, or really do any of the things that most companies do when they want to be good at providing a service. But hey, that’s their business, and they don’t tell me how to run mine and I won’t tell them how to run theirs in a way that needlessly and pointlessly disrupts my business.
Anyway, this isn’t the end of ZEALOT and this certainly isn’t the end of ZEAL, so instead we’re going to be refocusing our efforts back onto Patreon. If you want to continue supporting ZEAL and getting to watch some cool funny videos from your editors as a special bonus, check out our Patreon!
